Rankings of Top 10 Nursing Schools in the UK

The University of Edinburgh has the best nursing programmes in the UK, ranked No. 1 by The Times and placed 1st again in the Guardian Good University Guide 2009/10 (for the 5th year running). In the last Research Assessment Exercise (RAE 2008), its nursing research achieved the highest rating of any Nursing Department in Scotland, with 65% of submitted publications rated as either 4* or 3*. It offers a four-year a Bachelor of Nursing with Honours and several taught and research postgraduate degrees such as the PhD, MPhil, MSc by Research (Nursing), and MSc Advancing Nursing Practice.

University of Glasgow has one of the best nursing departments in the country. Its Nursing and Health Care are rated joint 7th in the UK and joint 1st in Scotland, according to the Times Higher Education Table of Excellence for Unit of Assessment 12. It offers the Bachelor of Nursing Degree and MSc (MedSci) in Health Care with pathways in Cancer Care, Palliative Care, Critical Care, Cardiac Care, Stroke Care, Lymphoedema, Specialist/Advanced Practice and Generic.

University of York is rated second top for Nursing in The Independent University Guide 2010 and rated joint top University for Health Services Research and 4th for Nursing and Midwifery in the RAE 2008.

The School of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work at The University of Manchester was placed top of the table for nursing and midwifery research in the UK (RAE). In the Nursing and Midwifery unit of assessment, 85% of the research undertaken by its staff was rated as 4* 'World Leading' (the highest possible category - 50%) and 3* 'World Class' (35%).
